Life at Scotch is about the community
It seems somewhat surreal that last week turned out to be our first 'normal' week of schooling this term, that is, classroom-based and mask free.
It is strange to see what has become the new definition of our normal.
If we learned nothing else during our various lockdowns over the last 12 months, we have truly come to realise the value of community and in-person connection. This is not a new construct for Scotch. Here, we are a group of people with diverse characteristics linked by our social ties, shared perspectives, and engagement in the many activities that occur across the College.
We were sad to cancel our Welcome Back BBQ, which is always a great community event for our parents, due to the recent lockdown but we hope to see you at the first Scotch Parents gathering on Wed 3 Mar. Our Studio Scotch team, Sam Sterrett and Steve McLean, and students will be joining us to discuss our new podcasting studio, funded by Scotch Parents, and upcoming events.
We will be serving refreshments and nibbles. Yes, we are all busy, but don't let that stop you from joining us for an hour. Let us set the scene and standard for a strong and united Scotch Parents programme in 2021. Having our parents involved is such an important and vibrant part of our community and an aspect that we value greatly.
We're very grateful that the restrictions on gatherings are currently behind us, and our Scotch Parents Committee and their supporters are well and truly back in the game. Last week, our new President Heather Cowan generously held an informal coffee morning at her place for Year Representatives, to get our parent community up and running for this year.
Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday 3 March.
