Why Middle School Matters
Scotch College made the decision to create a dedicated Middle School aimed at providing the best pastoral and academic transition between Junior School and eventually Senior School.
The Middle School commences at Year 6 and concludes in Year 8. The Year 6 programme is focussed on settling the boys into an environment that is a mixture between a primary school, where there is consistency in having the same classroom teacher, and Senior School where students experience specialised teachers. The Year 6 programme also introduces the concept of specialised teachers within the areas of Mathematics, Science, Society and the Environment and English. The Middle School teachers are well versed in recognising the social and emotional needs of boys in a dynamic phase of their lives and are committed to delivering a programme that is couched in age appropriate learning for young boys moving through adolescence.
In Year 6 we intake some 50+ new students, providing an opportunity for boys to enter with many other students from outside of the Scotch environment. This ensures that they do not feel like they are the new kids on the block. This number then doubles in Year 7. Our aim is for Middle School boys to march into Senior School comfortable in who they are and who is around them, knowledgeable in how they best learn and confident and enthusiastic about meeting the challenges that await in Senior School
